Module name:
- Advanced Fluid Dynamics
Description:
Competences: During this Module the students will acquire competences concerning all issues related to Fluid Dynamics in the field of Chemical and Energy Engineering. In particular, they will learn when and how to use different forms of the Bernoulli equation to solve realistic flows, possibly involving losses and energy exchange. They will furthermore be able to distinguish between incompressible and compressible flows and to obtain relevant solutions for such flows in an autonomous manner.
Content:
1. Introduction and basic concepts
2. Important mathematical relations, material derivative
3. Mass and momentum conservations equations
4. Hydrostatics and aerostatics
5. Bernoulli relation for ideal flows
6. Bernoulli relation for viscous flows involving work exchange
7. Force and torque induced by a flow
8. Navier-Stokes equations for viscous flows
9. Boundary layer
10. Basics of compressible flows
11. Shock waves
12. Similarity theory
13. Turbulent flows
